Acts of Hope is a children's charity now in its 9th year. We fund and manage a primary school for more than 300 children in Kasavanahalli on the outskirts of Bangalore. The school is for underprivileged children who would not otherwise receive any education.
It is amazing how quickly we have grown from the first intake of 56 children in June 2001. The generosity of our donors and partners, like Gleneagles Anglican Church, enables us to continue this remarkable growth, helping more children.
Bangalore is one of the fastest growing cities in the world. Its population has doubled over the past 5 years. This is putting tremendous pressure on land, homes and services and despite the economic growth the number of people moving out to rural areas and needing our help is on the increase.
Our plans for the next two years include:
To provide midday meals for all the children to supplement their diet. This is a significant commitment and will require an additional £11,000 pa in funding.
To build our first secondary school which will include a small clinic on site for the local community.
Also, Peter Willetts, the Executive Director of Acts of Hope, visited the village of Krishnaya Palem in Anhdra Pradesh, to assess the feasibility of supporting the work of local villagers who are struggling to provide schooling to 50 children.
In the UK we take education for granted, but in many parts of India there are no schools. Our mission is to '...bring hope and opportunity...'
