| Emmanuel International (EI) is an evangelical, interdenominational organisation whose objective is to aid the growth and development of indigenous local churches in developing countries. Andrew and Keeley Wickham and children, Charlie and Anna (and a third on the way) are working with EI in Kampala, Uganda. Their skills are in teaching, youth and children's work, with a focus on drama and music. Gleneagles Anglican Church is privileged to be linked with their ministry of bringing urgently-needed new ideas, creativity and techniques to churches and Sunday school classes in different areas of the country.
Keeley writes, “Over 50% of Ugandans are under the age of fourteen ... local Christians and church leaders long to provide adequate Sunday school for the children and lead them to Christ (along hopefully with their families!) but are just crying out for ideas, resources, teaching techniques and materials, which is where we come in.”
“Everywhere we go, we see the hand of God at work. At Bwera, a muslim lady and her family gave their lives to Christ... We have recently felt God leading us to develop a Sunday school curriculum, using active learning techniques, music and drama. It is quite something to participate in a Spirit-filled African worship service in the villages with the beautiful singing and joyous participation amongst the poverty, illness and need.”
Keeley teaches English and Drama at Heritage International School in Kampala and runs a weekly staff training programme for local teachers. Andrew’s recent projects have included the production of a series of Bible lessons for unschooled or illiterate children and a book of Gospel Stories for local children.
