In Ugandan schools there is a little call/response activity for those times when there is something important to report. It goes like this:
TEACHER: “News, news?”
STUDENTS: “Yes please!”
Well, we have some “news, news” for you – We have a new baby boy!
Joseph Simon Wickham was born on 5th March at 9.15 pm at our home in Kampala, following an incredible 3 hour labour! The whole experience was very peaceful, what with Sue the midwife praying at every turn, the older children tucked up in bed fast asleep as normal, and many friends around Kampala lifting Keeley up to the Lord as well. Andrew’s sister Mandy had just arrived earlier that afternoon and she was on hand to make cups of tea and even volunteered to cut the cord! The following day baby Joseph was taken tothe International Hospital where he was weighed. He came in at 8 pounds & 4 ounces.
A few days later Rev Kenneth Oola was visiting from Pader (northern Uganda) and gave Joseph a further middle name – Otim, which is an Acholi word for someone born outside of their country or area.
So please join us in prayer and thanksgiving for this new baby: Pray for Joseph’s health. Pray for Keeley’s recovery after the birth. Pray that Joseph will grow up knowing the Lord. Pray for the family as we adapt to being 6. Pray for renewed energy and for times of rest.
