JUNE2009 NEWS

Distribution of The Children’s Bible has been completed. Over thirty different places churches, mission projects, and schools have received copies, and the response has been incredible. However, there is still so much need and a real hunger among both adults and children for a simple and colourful presentation of the story of salvation! Fundraising is currently going on to produce more copies of The Children’s Bible. If you would like to donate to this project please send a cheque to EIUK, Forum House, Stirling Road, Chichester, W.Sussex, PO19 7DN, marking it clearly for “Andrew Wickham Bible project Uganda”.

Please celebrate with us: babies Christy and Joseph are now walking! Christy (who will be 3 in October) especially is so pleased to have the run of the house and struts around shrieking with laughter as though she knows she is being liberated from the chains of mental shutdown. It has been amazing to witness the change in her outlook as, in the past few weeks, she has worked out how to crawl, stand, and then take her first steps! We do not want to undermine the achievement of Joseph as well but, to be honest, we were not altogether sure if Christy would ever walk and it is a miracle that she is doing so well! In August she will start a few mornings of playgroup to help with her social development.

Andrew has now completed the first year of his theology study (three more to go!) with the Open Theological College/University of Gloucestershire. The most recent assignment was a research project on Christian response to the Atheist Bus Campaign – thanks to all those who completed questionnaires! Andrew has been pleased and surprised to receive fairly good marks throughout the year. In September work will start again with units on Islam and Luke’s Gospel.

We are excited to announce the launch of our band! The 6 of us, all missionaries, have recently completed the recording of 6 original songs, currently being mixed in the States. This “E.P” will be available to download from the internet at the end of July. Our aim is to glorify God through the talents he has given us in music and song-writing.

Please look out for updates on this project over the coming months! We still don’t have a name . . . suggestions gratefully received!

You may remember hearing about Nelson and Lucy at The Living Gate Revival Centre, and the Sunday-school programme Andrew has worked on with them. Well, after almost three years of working together, Andrew’s direct involvement with the programme has gradually faded. Lucy is now in the position to prepare her own lessons and deliver sound teaching suitable for the children in her group. This is great news and it means that we can enjoy the friendship which has built up over the past few years of working together. There is some sad news however: for some months Lucy’s elderly mother has been staying with the family, very ill. Last weekend we got a phone call to say that her condition had grown serious and they were preparing to take her back to the village to die at home with the rest of the family around. Please remember them in your prayers.

Keeley is the new Principal of Heritage International School! Since the school year finished at the end of May, Keeley has been busy organizing just about everything you can think of - student enrollment, filling teacher positions, etc. - ready for the new start in August. Please pray for her as she steps out of the classroom and into the office for the first time in her career. Keeley says she is excited about the year ahead and feels ready to face the challenges of running a school. Her vision is for Heritage to be a Christ-centred, Godly school, where staff, students, parents and teachers are touched and transformed by the love of Jesus. If any of you feel the call to come and teach in a Mission School for a year or two then she is already recruiting for August 2010!

NEWSFLASH!!!
We have heard this week that the funding has been donated for all of us as a family to visit Rwanda in October to meet Jonathan Coore in Shyogwe Diocese. We will be looking at how to adapt The Children’s Bible for our brothers and sisters in Rwanda, and are very excited about the trip. Praise the Lord!!

Charlie and Annie are enjoying their school holidays which so far have been full of football camps, basketball camps, and this week, Ultimate Frisbee!

Thank you for your continued support of our family.

Prayer requests:

That God will continue to be glorified in all we do

Praise God for Christy’s development and pray that he will continue to heal her body, mind and spirit.

Pray that the remaining funding will come in for another print run of Children’s Bibles.

Pray for Keeley and Heritage – that the remaining vacancies will be filled and that Jesus Christ will be at the centre of everything the school accomplishes in the coming year.
